CORTLAND, NY

Thanks to the generosity of an opera loving anonymous donor, The Arts at Grace concert series is able to offer a special treat to the Cortland community. Four Syracuse Opera Resident Artists will perform on Sunday, April 11 at 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 13 Court Street in Cortland. Soprano Rebecca D'Elia, mezzo-soprano Wendy Buzby, tenor Vernon Di Carlo, and baritone Evan Rainey Bennett will be singing arias and show tunes. Eric Andries will be accompanying them on the piano. The performers will describe why each number is personally meaningful and significant. There is no charge for admission. Audience members will be able to meet and talk with the performers at an informal reception following the concert.

The Syracuse Opera Resident Artist Program was founded in 2008 to provide performing opportunities for emerging artists. Resident Artists are selected from competitive national auditions. Once they arrive in Syracuse, these rising young stars perform small roles in mainstage productions. They also take their own Resident Artist Productions throughout Upstate New York. Their final weekend performance will be in Cortland.

Celebrating its 35th year, Syracuse Opera is a professional company that enriches the lives of the people of upstate New York not only through the Resident Artists program, but also through locally produced opera. Syracuse Opera reaches 60,000 people annually by offering three mainstage productions and year-round community performances and education programs. More information is available at www.SyracuseOpera.com or (315) 475-5915.

The Arts at Grace is a community outreach effort of Grace Episcopal Church assisted by many individual and business contributors from the greater Cortland community. Major supporters of the 2009-2010 are the Wilkins Foundation and the New York State Arts Decentralization Grant Program. The series mission is to provide wonderful music at no charge to any one who wants to hear it. Thus, admission to all Arts at Grace is always free even though donations are welcome.
